The Beneteau Oceanis 45, epitomises contemporary yacht design. This spectacular 45 footer is user-friendly, but not at the expense of performance, and provides a perfect combination of luxury, price and power.

Former European Yacht of the Year, the Oceanis 45 is efficiently designed for space and is a delight to sail, offering stability, balance and performance.

45 On Deck

45 On Deck

Sailing the Beneteau Oceanis 45 is, quite simply, sheer pleasure.

Her spacious feel comes from a hard chine hull design that results in a greater beam with increased space both on deck and below.

And like her sisters the 41 and 48, the beautifully designed mast is in line with the keel, which maximises the centre of effort and gives both power and performance.

The 45 also features Beneteau’s Dock & Go mooring system…which simplifies manoeuvring by using a joystick control…making mooring easier than ever before.

Boasting the largest cockpit in it’s class, the Beneteau Oceanis 45 is equipped with a table that can contain a refrigerated icebox and features a tactile multi-function screen and ambient outdoor lighting perfect for entertaining.

The cockpit’s most impressive feature is the electrically controlled full-width fold-down transom. With just a touch of a button, the entire transom folds down flat to form an immense teak covered bench that sits flush with the water. This makes getting on and off tenders so easy!

45 Interior

45 Interior

Down below you’ll find a spacious and airy interior, where you’ll enjoy more natural light than ever before, with cockpit windows illuminating the rear cabins and portside galley.

Ranging from two to four cabins, the 8 berth Oceanis 45 offers you four layout variations.

The 45’s designers have solved the problem of light and space in each variation by adding large windows – with shades – facing aft into the cockpit, and ample ventilation via the deck hatch and opening port.

The portside galley boasts a unique L shaped kitchen, a large double sink, gas cooker and 2 burners, stainless steel oven on mountings, 1.84 litre ice box, and a 130 litre refrigerator (front opening).

You’ll enter the owner’s cabin through double doors which mean you can really open up the space.

This configuration allows you to sleep head-to-bow and enjoy stargazing through the opening overhead skylight. Sweet dreams!

While it is common for builders to offer an array of options to customize a boat to an owner’s needs, Beneteau has truly gone above and beyond.

While the typical builder offers components in packages, Beneteau allows the owner to select options piece by piece. This allows buyers to get into the best boat for them and their cruising plans.

This allows buyers to get into the best boat for them and their cruising plans.

Our advice to buyers is to always go bigger rather than getting a boat that is “exactly” the right size – because too often the “right size” boat ends up being too small.

Then, a second boat will be bought. By going bigger first, buyers can avoid the added expense of buying two boats.

Like the Oceanis 50, the 45 feels like a big boat underfoot and has plenty of space on deck for a big sailing party. But, the boat sails well and is simple and easy to handle for a couple or even a single handed sailor.

The Oceanis 45 is the little sister to the new Oceanis 50 that debuted last year. The themes that made that boat so popular have been refined in the new 45-footer. The mainsheet runs to an arch at the forward end of the cockpit, so the cockpit is not obstructed by the sheet and tackle as you tack or jibe.

2012 European sailboat of the year in the family cruiser category…

It’s a big wrap for the Beneteau Oceanis 45, but it’s also a fair one. As a company, Beneteau have been happy to evolve the product and continue to meet their loyal customers demands.

With this new Oceanis 45 however, the evolution is certainly more pronounced than before, possibly more akin to what Chris Bangle did with BMW’s styling not all that long ago. Maybe not such a paradigm shift, but certainly a clear demarcation.

Having sailed all three of the new Oceanis yachts recently, my editor asked me, “which one would you choose?”

That got me thinking. Money matters for most prospective buyers, so the six-figure difference in price between the 41 and 48 is significant, whereas it’s more than halved between the 41 and the 45.

For sailors regularly doing offshore passages, the longer the waterline, the faster you can go and the more versatility the interior has, which means it can be chartered out or cope with large family gatherings.
